The Saskatchewan Provincial Gymnastics championships were in Yorkton last week.

Yorkton's Springer's Gymnastics hosted the 2012 GymSask Provincial Championships at the Flexihall from April 20-22.

On Saturday, from 12:30-4:30 p.m., the national level athletes will compete in all four disciplines, including women's, men's, trampoline and tumbling, and rhythmic gymnastics.

Two additional national senior men's gymnasts are Anderson Loran and Trevor McArthur (who began his gymnastics career in Yorkton).

Also competing is Dennis Oppenlander, who is a national level trampoline and tumbling athlete. Sixteen year old Brittany Schofer of Springer's placed first in her category, says Jessica Ronn, who was keeping busy coaching for Springer's as well as handling duties as a judging chair for the club.

"She won provincial champion in women's artistic gymnastics."

Schofer's gold medal performance came on Saturday and the competition she faced was strong.

"It's gone really well. All clubs have done well." The chances of a high placing came down to age level and category.

Another local performer, Kennedy Karl was expected to compete in rhythmic gymnastics.

Ronn said this is the provincial meet's first time back in Yorkton in quite some time and the whole three days went by smoothly.

"It's been 12 years since Yorkton has hosted," she said.
