The Yorkton Harvest held their spring skate over the weekend at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

The staff of the Midget AAA squad was kept busy for the better part of three days evaluating talent.

They are busy assembling the team for next season.

Harvest head coach Jeff Odgers said the camp was focussed on bringing players in, ages 15-17, and determining who may be brought back for the fall camp.

Odgers said there were 110 players that were invited to the camp, held at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

He said that about half of them were cut by late Sunday afternoon.

The camp also included players from last year's Harvest team that, based on their age, are eligible to return.

"We are looking to bring 4-45 (back) for the fall camp," he said.

Despite telling over 50 players that they aren't what the team is looking for, Odgers said one of the better parts of the spring skate is getting a closer look at some players who really have good command of the game and can bring it at this level.

"Of the kids that show upif they play better than expected."

The camp involved a handful of scrimmages, which he said gives the coaches a good look at some of the goaltending talent, although Odgers said the scores of the scrimmages are of little concern to him.

"We're not so much concerned about the (final) score."

He says he's paying more attention to how players are showing signs of being able to fit into the system.

"Habits they have," explains Odgers. "You look at goaltenders," he continues, noting that when someone posts a shutout, it's something that will get noticed.

Odgers wound up signing three players as well as a goaltender.

Derrick Wilderman out of Weyburn has signed with Yorkton, said Odgers. He will play alongside incumbent from last season, Spencer Bomboir.

Also signed to Harvest player cards are Donovan Lumb, Corwin Stevely and Logan Leslie.

Odgers said some of the hopefuls came from as far away as Saskatoon and Assiniboia.
