The Kamsack Skate Park has received funding from the Canada Post Community Foundation.

On Friday, Glady Achtymichuk, postmaster at the Kamsack Post Office, presented a cheque of $2,500 to Kev Sumner, Kamsack recreation director.

The money is “for an exciting rejuvenation initiative project” for the Skate Park, said a release.

Led by Sumner and a group of community volunteers, the project focuses on the long term benefits of the Skate Park for the community, the release said. This park is a community treasure for children of Kamsack and the surrounding area.

The project will enable local children to play safely on brand new equipment, it said. Not only will they benefit from outdoor activity but they will discover the fun of skateboarding, cycling and scootering.

“We are really excited about what this grant will do for our Skate Park,” Sumner said. “Our older equipment that cannot stand up to the harsh Saskatchewan winters will be replaced with metal ramps and boards.

“This will mean the kids in our community will play on the industry’s latest and safest structures,” he said, thanking the Canadian Post Community Foundation for the money.

The Canada Post Community Foundation for Children’s vision is to help ensure every child in Canada is happy, healthy and part of a community that supports and cares for them, the release said. Its mission is to have a positive effect in the lives of children in the communities Canada Post serves by supporting registered charities, school programs or local initiatives that benefit children.

The Foundation has granted more than $4 million to over 300 community organizations across Canada. Persons wishing to learn more about the Foundation may visit canadapost.ca/community.
