Jaden Porte competed at his last outdoor meet at the Western Canadian Summer Games in Fort MacMurray, Alberta.

It was an experience that he will never forget in his life time.

Porte competed in heat two of the 800m. With two heats and 16 athletes they only took the top eight athletes for the final.

The unthinkable and worst thing happened in the race. when, wih Porte in second place at the 300m mark of the race, the athlete behind Porte pushed him and he hit the track face first and rolled into the infield.

This would disqualify him for the final as an athlete has to remain on the track and Porte did not finish race.

Fortunately for Porte, the track judge ruled that he was shoved and in the fairness of sport allowed the Yorkton runner to compete in the 800m final as a ninth athlete/something very rarely seen.

The 800m final the following day was also memorable as well as Porte, due to being named the ninth competitior, had to share a lane with the top ranked runner Shane Dilan from Wnnipeg.

Porte and Dilan jostled for position in order to get a strong start with Porte winning the battle and getting ahead of the top ranked runner 100m into the race.

The two athletes battled all the way down the track with Dilan finishing just ahead of Porte, however track officials disqualified Dilan due to unsportsmanlike conduct during the race, awarding first place to Porte.

Eventually the decision to suspend Dilanw as overruled, giving the Winnipeg runner the gold medal while Porte received silver.

Porte was also on the 4 x 400m Relay teamthat got a bronze medal. Porte ran a personal best 49.5 in the race.
