Saskatoon golfer wins Canora Men’s Golf Tournament

Shooting a 76, John Kachur of Saskatoon won the championship flight of the Canora Men’s Golf Tournament on Sunday. With a full compliment of 72 golfers in the tournament, Bob Giles of Human Resources Services was the main sponsor.

With a full compliment of 72 golfers in the tournament, Bob Giles of Human Resources Services was the main sponsor. With many other sponsors, prizes were presented to the top eight golfers in four flights. Where total scores were the same, winners were decided upon a countback.

Placing from second to eighth place in the championship flight, and their scores, were: Steve Yannoulis of Canora, 77; Carson Dennis of Canora, 77; Ashlee Straightnose of Kamsack, 78; Nathan Hay of Yorkton, 80; Aubrey Quewezance of Kamsack, 82; Ryan Ogloff of Canora, 82; and Tristen Keshane of Kamsack, 83.

Dwight MacDonald of Canora won the first flight with an 87. Placing from second to eight place in the flight were: Doug Jones of Yorkton, 87; Shadd Tratch of Canora, 88; Brendon Halchyshak of Canora, 88; Peter Steranko of Canora, 89; Lenny Bazarski of Canora, 89; Dale Schmidt of Yorkton, 89; and Don Happy of Good Spirit Lake, 90.

Kevin Hachysak of Thompson, Man. Won the second flight with a 93.He was followed by Kelly McTavish of Canora, 94; Terry Dennis of Canora, 94; Kelly Lindsey of Good Spirit Lake, 94; Myk Rostotski of Saskatoon, 94; Brennon Dixon of Regina, 94; Claude Cherhorski of Preeceville, 94; and Wyman Pelletier of Yorkton, 95.

Myron Shiplack of Regina won the third flight with a score of 101. He was followed by Stan Gulutzan of Canora, 102; Jerry Palagian of Nipawin, 103; John Anaka of Yorkton, 103; Todd Allan of Yorkton, 103; Don Probe of Canora, 104; Deryl Ortynsky of Canora, 105; and Mark McTavish of Canora, 105.

For the novelty prizes, Nathan Hay of Yorkton was the big winner. He won for the closest to the pin on Hole No. 5 (three feet, 3.5 inches), for the longest drive on Hole No. 2 and for the longest drive on Hole No. 7. Steve Petrowich of Regina won for the longest putt on Hole No. 8. Shadd Tratch of Canora won for being the closest to the pin on Hole No. 3 (4.1 inches).

The women’s golf tournament was scheduled to be held on Saturday but was postponed to next Saturday due to poor weather conditions.
