On September 9-10, the Sacred Heart Saints senior boys' volleyball team travelled to the University of Regina for a 20-team tournament.

This was the first court action for the senior team at Sacred Heart, said Curtis Moen, coach.

The tournament was set up of four pools of five teams. In Sacred Heart's pool there was Kincaid, Campbell, Balfour and Hepburn.

In the round robin matches, the saints defeated Hepburn while still scoring at least 16 points out of 25 on the other teams.

The Saints placed fourth in their pool which moved them into the playoffs against Carnduff. Sacred Heart beat them out in two straight sets 25-15 and 25-23, said Moen.

The team then advanced to the C final facing off with O'Neil from Regina.

This was a great court battle although the Saints came up short in both games (23-25, 22-25).

"Overall, Sacred Heart's team placed in 14 in the tournament and showed significant improvements throughout the tournament."

Moen added that there are some on the team who did not play volleyball last season and this was a good tournament in which to get some playing time.

"I have many new athletes who did not play volleyball last year, so this was a great tournament to get players on the court and receiving lots of game time.

Moen also noted that the odds were probably against them from the beginning, as some opponents were from much larger schools than Yorkton.

The team handled well against the large city schools and we look forward to improving our skills for our next tournament coming up in Langenburg on September 23-24."
