The preparations for elementary school football is scheduled to start up on April 26 at the Yorkdale Central Public School. They play in two different leagues. The first one is 6-man football as well as a 9-man league.

The Good Spirit School Division will be holding their annual Showcase track and field meet at the Gallagher Centre. It will feature the top 18 finishes from last week's Standards track meet.


The Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association will be holding its regional badminton challenge on May 5 at the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame. Two days ago (Monday), the two Yorkton high schools were involved in the East Central Districts badminton competition. It was hosted by the Yorkton Regional High School. Competing was Invermay, Canora, Esterhazy, the Melville Comprehensive High School, Norquay, KCI, Sacred Heart High School, Sturgis, and the host, Regional. Both local schools will be sending at least three players to Notre Dame for the upcoming regionals this weekend.


The Parkland Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society received a donation from a Yorkton Minor Hockey Association team this week. Ed Zawatsky, head coach of the the Sherring Gold Pee Wee 'AA' Terrier hockey team asked his players to select a charity of their choice. In a hockey game this past season against Melville, all money collected at the gates would be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society, more specifically, children's cancer. The players put pink tape on their sticks and pink laces on their skates. The team was one of the most successful teams this season in minor hockey.
