The Canora Supers and The Roblin Stars of the South East Senior Baseball League (SESBL) met “in the middle” on June 16 to bring some fast-paced baseball action to Kamsack.
“It’s nice to play baseball in Kamsack,” said Greg Andreychuk who wears the No. 10 jersey and is the player/manager of the Canora team. “The diamonds here are in good shape, and we are pleased to showcase the game here today. It would be nice to see a Kamsack team in the future.”
Ian Quewezance, who wears the No. 11 jersey for the Canora team and plays the shortstop position, is a Kamsack resident who loves the game, and had no team to join in Kamsack.
The first game of the doubleheader was won by Canora with a score of 12 to 6 and the second game also went to Canora with a score of 15 to 6.
The games were organized by Mark Griffitts, a member of the Roblin Stars team who grew up and played minor ball in Kamsack.
Kamsack minor ball was on site to run a food concession, beer gardens and sell tickets for a 50/50 draw. There were raffle prizes as well.
Griffitts put a lot of work into Kamsack hosting the event, including building a pitching mound with donated material on the center diamond with the help of Roblin volunteers, according to Shanley Allard of Kamsack minor ball. “Mark hopes to make this an annual event. It will be a great fundraiser for our minor ball program and a chance to watch some good baseball,” she said.
