Yorkton's Brittany Thies returned home over the weekend for her Raider Gridder Alumni Cheer Clinic.

"It's great to come back," she said.

Having spent time on both the YRHS cheer squad as well as the Saskatchewan Roughrider cheer squad, she brought some experience back home again.

She's had good turnouts before and had another good one Saturday at MC Knoll Elementary School.

Thies was thrilled with the turnout.

Her clinic was part of a 1-2-3 punch effect, offered in conjunction with Football Night in Saskatchewan. The clinic ran alongside a lineman camp held for the boys at the Gallagher Centre Flexi Hall, and was topped off by the banquet later that evening held at St. Mary's.

Packed together, everything gave local football fanatics just about all that they could handle for one day.

"You can't have football without cheerleading," chimed Thies, whose enthusiasm matches her energy.

"Yes, it's a huge part," beamed Thies all smiles, following the completion of the cheerleading session, when asked how the clinic fits in with the overall theme of football theme day.

"Absolutely, the cheer clinic was packed full of kids. It doesn't get much better than that," added Roby Sharpe of YMF.

"There is so much work (to be done). The football camp is huge," she said half out of breath.

She was pleased with the group that turned out and put on a little show upon the conclusion, three times over.

All proceeds raised from the clinic, lineman camp and the banquet go towards YMF.

Her efforts raised about $700 towards the cause.

Among the skills she went over was the pyramid. Her youngest participant was 6 years old.

Also impressive was the level of skill in the group and Thies suggested that is the best part of holding a clinic like this, after having cheer led in the CFL.

"Now, I honestly want the young ladies to get as far as I came."
