YORKTON - If you have a spare room with a bed and are a fan of junior hockey you might be able to help out the local Yorkton Terriers.
The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League franchise is in need of billets, both short-term, through the preseason, and for throughout the upcoming 2022-23 season.
Pat Holtkamp said the team understands people might not want to agree to a full season right off, so they might want to try a short fill-in through preseason as a sort of trial run.
“We have players just hoping to get a spot on the team,” she explained adding “two weeks is not a long-term commitment.”
At the same time the Terriers could use some additional season-long spots.
Holtkamp said she has players in temporary spots awaiting a permanent billet, while others are doubled up, which she said is not preferred. She said when players are billeted singly, it leads to more interaction with the billet family.
As for the rules with the players, Holtkamp said it is generally “their home (the billets) – their rules.”
So how things work in the home can vary. For example, some billets prefer to operate their washing machines, while others expect the players to wash their clothes.
Billets do receive $400 per month, along with two season tickets, two tickets to the spring awards banquet and a few other perks.
