Melville scored first Saturday but Yorkton responded for a win.

YORKTON - The Yorkton Terriers returned to action Saturday hosting rival Melville in their first game back after the SJHL seasonal break.

The Mills started things at the Westland Insurance Arena when Euan Morrison scored on the powerplay at 13:42 of the first period.

Jeff Hammond would knot things with a Terrier goal only 11 seconds later and the 1-1 tie held into the middle stanza.

It took only 2:26 into the second period for Hammond to give the home side the lead at 2-1.

A powerplay effort from recent addition David Coyle at 10:30 extended the Terrier lead to 3-1.

Hammond would be back with his hat trick goal at 13:18 – another extra man effort – to make it 4-1.

And that would be it as both teams went scoreless the rest of the way.

Ethan Farrow was in net for the Terrier win facing 29-shots.

William Dyke started for Melville allowing all four goals on 16-shots, before being lifted in favour of Ethan Rau who stopped all nine shots he faced.

The teams will go at it again New Year’s Day with a 2 p.m. start in Melville.
