YORKTON - The Yorkton Regional High School boys soccer team travelled to Saskatoon for the season ending provincial finals tournament.

The event boasted eight of the best 5A schools in the province.

Having finished first in the South Division, the Regional Raiders would first face off against the second place finishers out of Regina from O'Neill High School.

The Raiders jumped out to an early lead on a goal from Colby Haliday and held on to the slight 1-0 advantage until late in the match, conceding twice to ultimately lose a heartbreaking contest 2-1.

From there the chances of a medal were over but the opportunity to win the consolation side of the draw remained.

The Raiders battled to a close victory against Prince Albert Carlton.

Colby Haliday again provided the goal in regulation to send the match into a penalty shootout.

Tishen Eburne made some fantastic saves in penalty kicks while Anish and Ayush Chhetri both converted their chances, before Drew Jepson's ultimate winner.

The final match saw the Raiders come up against the other PA representative from St. Mary's School on a very snowy Saturday morning.

The boys fought hard to a 1-0 victory off the back of a Maddon McCombs goal.

Ultimately the Raiders did not come away with the medal they wanted, but the experience and memories of the frozen tundra final will certainly last long in memory, noted coach Steven DeLong.
