YUFC boys U16 win gold

The Yorkton United Football Club (YUFC) U16 Boys opened their 2016-2017 indoor season by travelling to Saskatoon this past weekend, Nov. 11-13, to compete in the Lakewood Kickstart Tourney at the Sasktel Soccer Centre.

The Yorkton United Football Club boys U16 team travelled to Saskatoon for their first tournament of the indoor season. They returned to Yorkton with gold medals around their necks.

The Yorkton United Football Club (YUFC) U16 Boys opened their 2016-2017 indoor season by travelling to Saskatoon this past weekend, Nov. 11-13, to compete in the Lakewood Kickstart Tourney at the Sasktel Soccer Centre. The boys went undefeated throughout the weekend, and brought home the gold medal for YUFC.

The boys started out with a 6-1 Victory over Saskatoon East Side. Goal scorers were Nick Fetsch (2), Nic Nesseth (2) Jordin Rusnack and Amogh Tripathy,  who also was awarded Man of the Match.

The second game was played against another Saskatoon side, the Aurora Celtics. The game was very tight, with the first half ending 0-0, but the YUFC boys’ patience paid off, and they ended up with a 3-0 victory in the end. A shut out was earned by keeper, Austin Stewart, who was also named Man of the Match for his efforts. Goal Scorers were Nick Fetsch, Jordin Rusnack and Petro Zotov.

The third game was contested against tournament hosts Lakewood Javentude. The YUFC boys once again put in an excellent effort, and came away with a 6-1 win, with all six goals in this game being scored by striker Nick Fetsch, who was named the game MVP for his scoring success. This victory put YUFC into the semi-finals as the top seed with 9 points, which put them against Regina Excelsior.

The Yorkton boys showed they meant business in the semi-final match, and wanted to maintain their undefeated status in the tournament. They won their semi-final match 11-0 with goals by Nick Fetsch (5), Jordin Rusnack (2), Matt Cochrane, Kaleb Weinheimer, Amogh Tripathy and Petro Zotov, with the shut out recorded by Austin Stewart in net.

The victory against Regina put them into the final against Saskatoon Aurora. Once again the boys fought hard to claim victory in their first tourney of the season. Winning 4-0 with goals by Nick Fetsch (3) and Kaleb Weinheimer  Weinheimer was awarded Man of the Match.
