BEECHY - Two communities in the local region will mark special anniversaries later this year.

The villages of both Beechy and Elrose will host centennial celebrations in their respective communities, with a number of events being planned to ring in both of them marking 100 years of history.

Down in the village of Beechy, planning meetings have already begun for the community's birthday bash, with a meeting held on January 19 to discuss prospective plans and events to be held. No official date for the event has been confirmed, but that is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. The village's recreation board is inviting those who want to provide any input or have interest in planning events to reach out to Shelley Stenerson at 1-306-821-2878.

Over in the southwestern town of Elrose, plans have been well underway for some time for the community's centennial, with an official website created to keep people up to date on everything in the works for the big weekend, which is slated for July 25-27.

The event, known as Elrose Homecoming 2025, already has a substantial list of activities that are scheduled, including a wiener roast, free swimming, an outdoor movie, a tavern dance, a morning parade, a show n' shine, a community supper, an evening program of entertainment, and fireworks.

The Elrose Homecoming Facebook page has also been sharing some interesting facts about the local area, including the fact that the creator of popular iced tea mix Nestle Goodhost grew up on a farm south of Elrose. Stuart Daw, who was born on June 25, 1928, created the formula for the summertime go-to drink that's enjoyed across the country, and he went on to become an international businessman with multiple food and beverage companies.

People can keep an eye on everything being planned for the event by going to elrose2025.com.
