OUTLOOK - With the 2024/25 hockey season behind them, the Outlook Mainline Ice Hawks of the SJFHL are now looking to the future with upcoming spring training sessions, as well as having a few of their players recognized for their efforts on the ice this year.
The team, which upheld a #1 ranking in the league as the playoff season kicked off, was defeated by the Regina Jr. Rebels in the final game for the SJFHL's Bourgault Cup championship at Outlook's Jim Kook Rec Plex on Saturday, March 29.
Despite the loss, the skills on display throughout the duration of the season were noticed by many, and as a result, several Ice Hawks found themselves listed as making two All-Star teams that were decided by the league.
Haley Braun, leading the season this year as a rookie with an eye-raising number of points with 65 of them, coming from 42 goals and 23 assists, was included on Team One of the All-Stars roster.
Two more Ice Hawks were included on the All-Stars Team Two. Earning the goaltender spot was Sydney Martin, who played her way to a 1.35 GAA during the league's regular season. Joining her is teammate Teanna Crossman, who earned a defense spot after shooting her way to 13 points in 18 games.
The SJFHL, having just wrapped its second year of existence, is already looking at expansion plans with the success of the league's first couple of seasons. Hockey Saskatchewan sent out a memo at the end of March looking for franchise applications to add to the existing league of six current teams.
Both them and the SJFHL's board of directors are calling for applications from communities that may be interested in becoming a member of the Under-22 league for this coming fall. Hockey Saskatchewan will retain the final approval of member teams within the league.
Applications for the 2025-26 season and beyond are being accepted until April 30 at 5:00 pm and can be submitted online to [email protected].
In the meantime, existing teams are busy making plans for spring training camps and already looking towards next season.
The Regina Jr. Rebels are hosting a skills and scrimmage camp on April 26/27, while the Saskatoon Prairie Blaze has one scheduled for May 4.
The Mainline Ice Hawks are set to host their own spring camp, currently set for Saturday, April 26 in Saskatoon at the Agriplace Arena.
Coached by Josh Houseman, with assistant coaching provided by Nikki Stewart, Meg Dyer and Kallie Colwell, and training by Catherine Trew, the Outlook Mainline Ice Hawks this season were comprised of players Addie Marien, Jayda Braun, Emma Carson, Nicole Hackl, Taylor Grimeau-Nolan, Bridgette Vedress, Samantha Jensen, Kaylee Drotar, Taylor Leitch, Sydney Wood, Ali Orvold, Chloe Coates, Keeley Martens, Hailey Spence, Meikka Ehlert, Tyrell Schroeder, Brooklynne Francon, Haley Braun, Teanna Crossman, Jazlyn Irving, Kienna Higgs, Jessica Bouffard, and Sydney Martin.
