OUTLOOK - If you look up in the sky, you just might be able to see some hawks that are flying very high right now.

At least, in the local sports scene, that certainly seems to be the case with the Under-22 female Outlook Ice Hawks, who are in the midst of playoffs in the Saskatchewan Junior Female Hockey League (SJFHL).

On Friday, March 14, the team motored to Lumsden to take on the hosting Lynx, and the Hawks took it to them with a smart game plan that allowed them to remain ahead on the board and stave off any solid attempt at a comeback by their opponents.

The first period saw Outlook rack up two goals, made by #22 Teanna Crossman and #7 Bridgette Vedress, both within the last six minutes of the gameplay. The second period saw #6 Taylor Grimeau-Nolan sink the Ice Hawks' third goal on a power play in the last six minutes and forty seconds, but Lumsden came back with a goal made by #12 Hannah Miller.

That would be it for this game as the third period saw neither team score any more goals, meaning Outlook was leaving town as the winner.

In a second game between the two rosters at the Jim Kook Rec Plex on Sunday afternoon, March 16, things seemed to slow down for both teams as there were no goals scored in the first and second periods. When almost half the time in the third period had come and gone, spectators wondered exactly where this game was headed until Outlook #24 Kienna Higgs slapped one in at the 10:26 mark. When it looked like this one was going to end at a simple score of 1-0, Ice Hawks #21 Haley Braun sunk another one in on a power play with just 14 seconds remaining, ensuring that this one would end at a score of 2-0 for the Hawks.

The wins move Outlook further ahead as league finals are now on the horizon, with Game One for the Ice Hawks set to take place this coming Friday night, March 21 against the visiting Regina Rebels, and Game Two set for Sunday back in Regina.
