OUTLOOK - The Outlook Mainline Ice Hawks are riding a wave of momentum that they certainly hope will continue as the SJFHL season begins to wind down for the year.
The team hosted two games over the weekend and were able to collect wins in both sets of action.
On Friday, February 7, Outlook welcomed the Lumsden Lynx to the Jim Kook Rec Plex and the gameplay saw both teams come at each other tooth and nail, with each roster looking for some kind of edge.
The evenly-skilled teams fought for control of the puck in the first period, and it wasn't until the 7:44 mark that a goal went past the post, scored by Outlook #21 Haley Braun.
That would be the only goal scored during the first period, but the second one saw the excitement pick up a bit as Lumsden showed some improvement in their game. Although Outlook #8 Samantha Jensen notched another goal for her team at 8:44, the Lynx came back a few minutes later with a goal of their own scored at the 2:15 mark by #15 Paytin Copeland.
That would the last that the puck would be sent into a net for this game, as Outlook was victorious at a 2-1 score when the final buzzer sounded.
Keeping up that momentum at the Rec Plex going into Sunday's game on February 9 against the Kindersley Klippers, Outlook brought a whole new flurry of offense to their gameplay in this contest.
In the first period, the Ice Hawks couldn't be stopped from sinking goal after goal through the net of the Klippers, with #24 Kienna Higgs starting things off at the 17:48 mark. From there, #21 Haley Braun scored one a few minutes later at 11:54, which was followed a few minutes later by a goal from #8 Samantha Jensen. Racking up two more goals for Outlook in the final six minutes of the first period were #21 Braun and #22 Teanna Crossman.
Kindersley had their work cut out for them, and to their credit, #15 Sarah Folk managed to score one for the Klippers at 11:04 after Outlook #21 Braun had first scored a goal at 15:11. But that would be it for any hope of a comeback for Kindersley in this game, as Ice Hawks #21 Braun scored yet another goal at 10:25, followed by #8 Jensen at 9:13. Coming down to the final three minutes of gameplay, Outlook #22 Crossman scored another goal at 3:18, which was followed by a goal from #11 Kaylee Drotar, and then finally, the last goal of the second was scored by the MVP of this particular contest, Hawks #21 Haley Braun at the 2:06 mark.
The third period would only see one goal scored during the time of gameplay, made by Outlook #21 Braun at the 6:13 mark, making for six goals racked up by Braun during this game.
The Mainline Ice Hawks were once again victorious, this time at a commanding score of 12-1 over Kindersley.
Outlook will hope to keep up this momentum when they're on the road this coming weekend, with a game on Saturday in Gull Lake against the Southwest CMX Impact, followed by a return game against Kindersley on Sunday, which the hosting team will hope ends in a win for them.
The next home game for the Mainline Ice Hawks is pencilled in for Thursday, February 27 when the team hosts the Impact in return action with a game time of 8:00 pm.
