Margaret Okrainetz 1938-2015. On August 9, 2015 Mrs. Margaret Catherine (Holhouser) Okrainetz of Swan River, Manitoba passed away peacefully in the Swan Valley Lodge at the age of 77 years.
She is survived by her daughter Gaylene Odnokon (Allan) of Calgary, Alberta, grandson Colin Reed (Deandra) of Wainwright, Alberta, grandson Cody Reed of Whitecourt, Alberta, great grandchildren Rylin and Taya Rae, her brother Walter Holhouser of Quesnel, BC, sister Viola Whitlock of Richmond, BC, sister Francis Okrainetz (Art) of Barrhead, Alberta, sister Ivis Long of Whitecourt, Alberta, numerous nieces, nephews and greatnieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Lorne Michael Okrainetz, Brother Norman, parents Steve Holhouser and Sadie Holhouser (McRae). Margaret was born July 6, 1938 in the Rockford, Saskatchewan area. She went to school in Endeavour, Saskatchewan. She worked in Ninette, Manitoba at the sanitarium as a nurse’s aide. On September 22, 1961 she married Lorne.
They lived in Thompson, Manitoba where she worked managing a convenience store for 15 years. She learned how to skate and took skiing lessons but enjoyed curling and bowling. Her only daughter Gaylene was born in January 1965.
The family loved to travel and had many road trips across western Canada and into Ontario visiting relatives and friends. In 1973 Marge and Lorne flew to Hawaii and New Zealand for a vacation. She always talked about the trip with fond memories. In 1978, they moved to Swan River.
Marge worked in the paint and wall covering division of Benito Homes for a short period of time and then got a job at the Coop Service station where she worked for 18 years before retiring in 1997. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother putting everyone first. She made many trips to Whitecourt over the years to see her daughter and grandsons. She loved her garden and flowers.
When she retired, her and Lorne took trips with friends and family through western Canada, always driving so they could see the sights along the way. Diagnosed with dementia 9 years ago, she lived at home for a few years but moved into the Swan Valley Lodge in 2009. Everyone remembers her as a kind and caring person and always greeting them with a smile.
