YORKTON – The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce approved the results of its recent board election at their Nov. 20 regular board meeting.
A slate of eight candidates was presented to the membership, with additional nominations invited until noon on Oct. 31. No further nominations were received, resulting in the election of the slate by acclamation.
Returning to the Board are Sunil Shah and Alicia Simoneau. Newly elected members include Jennifer Armstrong, Tony Dales, Bob Paton, Vishal Sukhadiya, Kristin Weber and Corey Werner.
Each of the eight directors will serve a two-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2025. They join current directors Stephanie Buckle, Mary Carvalho, Paul Hoffman, Bob Knox, Mike Stackhouse and Ajay Tadi, who are serving the second year of their terms.
The Chamber's constitution allows for up to 16 directors, leaving two one-year term vacancies.
According to the Chamber’s constitution, members may be appointed to the board when a vacancy occurs. At the Nov. 20th meeting, the board appointed Doug Forster and Gurjit Dhaliwal to fill those positions," explained Juanita Polegi, Executive Director of the Chamber.
"With the mix of new and seasoned directors, I believe the board will bring strong leadership to the business community," said Polegi, adding, "as the 'voice of business in Yorkton and district' the Chamber will continue to advocate for opportunities and address issues relevant to the Yorkton business community."
The Chamber holds elections every November to fill half of the board positions. Candidates must be members of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce or represent businesses that hold membership. The newly elected board members will take their seats in January, when the executive will be elected by the directors.
