YORKTON – The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce, together with the City of Yorkton, will host an All Candidates’ Forum on Oct. 23 for the candidates for council in the upcoming municipal election.

The forum will be held at the Gallagher Centre beginning at 7 PM.

One candidate for mayor and all 10 candidates for council have committed to participating in the forum.

Juanita Polegi, executive director of the chamber, described the format of the forum.

The forum will begin with the candidate for mayor delivering his opening remarks and then answering a couple of questions. The candidates for council will be divided into three groups. Each group will consist of three or four candidates. They, too, will deliver opening remarks and answer questions from both the chamber and the audience. The event will close with the candidates for council sharing their closing comments.

As people arrive at the forum, they will have the opportunity to take paper supplied by the chamber on which to write their questions. The moderator will select which questions will be posed to the candidates. Polegi said, “Questions must be brief and directed at all the candidates in order for the question to be considered by the moderator”.

For those unable to attend the forum, the event will be broadcast live by The Rock 98.5 FM. Access Communications will air the Forum on AccessNOW TV Ch 28 at 8 p.m. Oct 24 and at 3:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Oct. 25.

Polegi indicated the forum is open to the public and there is no admission. She encourages everyone to attend the forum to meet the candidates in person and to speak to them personally.
