YORKTON - While still several months away, planning for this fall’s municipal election is already under way.

That effort included Yorkton Council approving a number of requirements and processes to conduct the 2024 Municipal and In-City School Board Elections scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 13.

In some cases changes were required following Local Government Election Act amendments that came into effect as of Jan. 1, 2024,” explained Jessica Matsalla, city clerk.

Included in the list of things approved was the remuneration rates for 2024 Municipal Election Officials, and the appointment of Amanda Dietz, Assistant City Clerk as the Returning Officer should the default Returning Officer, City Clerk Jessica Matsalla, become unable to act or perform her duties.

It was also noted that Nomination Day will be Oct. 9, 2024.

Council also approved the Gallagher Centre as the one and only polling location.

Matsalla said the budget for Municipal and In-City School Board Elections is approximately $58,500, which is cost shared with the two school divisions.
