First Yorkton Park Party of the summer sees great turnout

Next park parties scheduled for July 10 and Aug. 16.

YORKTON – Hundreds gathered at Weinmaster Park June 26 for the first Party of the Summer.

The event, organized by the Recreation and Community Services Department of the City of Yorkton, was the first of three scheduled park parties to take place.

Organizers told SASKTODAY.ca that the event, although organized by the city, is really a community initiative.

"We have community vendors from Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Yorkton Public Library as well as Girl Guides and Family Resource Centre," said Jessica Resler, Recreation Services Manager for the City of Yorkton.

"A lot of community here and that's really what the initiative behind park parties is all about," said Resler.

As for the turnout, Resler said it was "great."

"I feel super encouraged. I'm really glad that Yorkton came out to support it and just celebrate the last day of school and kicking off their summer with us," said Resler, adding, "we have lots of initiatives throughout the summer — we just really want to encourage people to get out into the green spaces. Get out into the parks and the playgrounds. Make the most of your summer."

Resler said the next Park Party is scheduled for July 10 and the final party scheduled for Aug. 16.

"Yorkton has so many great green spaces and parks to enjoy. We have a really long winter so get out and enjoy our community. We have so many beautiful places to really spend time with family and friends throughout the summer months," said Resler.
