YORKTON – KidSport Yorkton is teaming with the Terriers for a new campaign called Goals For KidSport.
"For every home goal they score this regular season our main sponsor — the Kinsmen Club of Yorkton — is giving us $50.00 per goal," told Doug Jonassen, Chairman of Yorkton KidSport, in an interview with SaskToday.ca
To add to that, nine other sponsors will be donating $10.00 per goal. This includes Maple Ag and Outdoor, RE/MAX Blue Chip Realty, the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, Jobsite Mechanical Service, Praire View Physiotherapy, Shawn Patenaude Law, Evolve, Cornerstone Credit Union and the Yorkton Tribal Council for a total of $140.00 per goal during regular season games.
"Last year they scored 76 — this year if they score 77 we stand to make 10 grand," said Jonassen.
Jonassen said this is the first year Yorkton KidSport has done the Goals For KidSport campaign and noted that all the funds raised in Yorkton will stay in Yorkton.
For those unfamiliar, KidSport provides grants to help cover the costs of registration fees so that all kids ages 5-18 years in Yorkton can play a season of sport.
"KidSport is all about getting kids off the sideline," said Jonassen, adding, the organization is "dedicated to assisting childrens' families facing financial obstacles to participate in community sport programs."
The Goals For KidSport will start this Friday, Sept. 20, when the Terriers host the Weyburn Red Wings at Westland.
And for those interested in KidSport or to apply for a grant, Jonassen said to visit their website.
