Maulers lose out to Blazers in back-to-back matches

Team set to face the Tisdale Trojans in weekend matches.

YORKTON – The Yorkton Maulers hosted the Saskatoon Blazers in back-to-back matches Dec. 9 and 10.

Game One

The Maulers hosted the Blazers at the Canora Civic Centre Dec. 9, losing 3–2 in a difficult match.

The game started with a bang as Tanner Wiens of the Maulers, with the assistance of Kashton Gillis and Ryder Woods, fired the puck into the net, scoring the first goal. Not to be outdone, the Blazers retaliated on a power play effort from Preston Baerwald, assisted by Will Degagne and Jake Missura. The first period ended with the teams locked at 1-1.

The second period saw the Blazers surge ahead. Emerson Clark, with the help of Cohen Harris and Shaan Basran, scored a goal, putting the Blazers in the lead. The Blazers’ momentum continued as Brayden Smith, assisted by Dayne Beuker and Caine Wilke, scored another goal. The second period concluded with the Blazers leading 3-1.

The final period saw the Maulers making a valiant effort to close the gap. Sam Cristo, assisted by Aidan Vallance and Kierin Osberg, managed to score a goal. However, despite their best efforts, the Maulers were unable to catch up, and the match ended with a score of 3-2 in favour of the Saskatoon Blazers.

Madex Kabrud was in net for the win, facing 23 shots and blocking 21. 

On the other side, Owen Sinclair saved 22 out of 25 shots.

Game Two

The Maulers travelled back to Yorkton Dec. 10 to host the Blazers at Westland Arena.

The first period saw both teams come out strong. The Blazers’ Shaan Basran found the back of the net with assists from Cooper Ernewein and Jake Missura. Not to be outdone, the Maulers’ Boston Schmidt scored on a power play, with Aidan Vallance and Kierin Osberg providing the assists.

In the second period the Blazers’ Cohen Harris scored a goal, assisted by Dayne Beuker and Ethan Hamilton, adding to the Blazers’ tally.

In the third period, the Maulers’ Lucas Hvidston scored, with assists from Tanner Wiens and Mikale Budz. However, the Blazers were not done. Raiden Zacharias and Brayden Smith both scored, with Smith’s goal coming on a power play. Caine Wilke added an empty-net goal, sealing the victory for the Blazers.

Madex Kabrud was in net for the Blazers, facing 26 shots and saving 24. 

Wyatt Bouvier was in net for the Maulers, facing 36 shots and saving 32.

The Maulers are scheduled to host the Tisdale Trojans at Westland Arena Dec. 15 and will visit the Trojans Dec. 17.
