Maulers trump Contacts with 6-3 win

Team is scheduled to host the Regina Pat Canadians Jan. 18 at the Canora Civic Centre.

The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers bested the Saskatoon Contacts in an exciting matchup Jan. 14 at Westland Arena.

YORKTON – The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers hosted the Saskatoon Contacts at Westland Arena the evening of Jan. 14.

The first period saw little action from either side until Contact Davey Fisher put one past the Maulers' netminder with 3:50 remaining in the period.

Maulers' Orsen Poll opened up scoring in the second period and a short time later teammate Brodie Heimbecker made use of a power play effort. Closing out scoring for the period was Mauler Layne McKechnie.

Mauler Ryder Woods put the Contacts at a three goal deficit to start the third period. Contact Matt Henkelman looked to bring his team back into the mix, scoring two successive goals which were answered by Maulers Aiden Vallance and Theron Watteyne.

Casson Silbernagel was in net for the Maulers, facing 46 shots and blocking 43.

Nick Goodwin was in net for the Contacts, facing 29 shots and blocking 23.

The Maulers are scheduled to host the Regina Pat Canadians at the Canora Civic Centre Jan. 18 at 4:00 PM.
