YORKTON - New batting cages have been installed at Jubilee Park in Yorkton.

On Saturday, Sept 21, Yorkton Minor Baseball held a ‘Thank You’ event at Jubilee Park for sponsors, contractors, and volunteers.

“We celebrated with free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and soft drinks,” explained project spokesperson Tom Courville. “This special event day was made possible by Sask Lotteries through their generous sponsorship.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Kinsmen Club of Yorkton for barbequing and serving lunch.

“Also, a thank you goes out to Lawrence Pindus and Garth Malayney. Lawrence helped repair the Jubilee parking lot that had experienced heaving making it ready for the event and Garth from Saddles and Steel dropped his work to assist with the YMB sound system. Both volunteered their time to make this event possible and enjoyable for those that attended.”

Courville said a lot of volunteer effort went into the project.

“I personally am so proud to have volunteered as the project manager for this batting cage project,” he said.

“This is a project that will benefit our youth and will be a destination for our youth and the public to meet at the cages.”

Now that Yorkton Minor Baseball has the facility built, YMB will establish schedules and look at the type of programs, initiatives and opportunities that present itself.

“This is a very good opportunity for the future of baseball and will help grow the game in Yorkton, as well as the Parkland area,” said Courville.

Courville said the cages are certainly a highlight of the baseball complex.

“The heart of this batting cage complex will be observed by every user that comes to the facility,” he said. “They will be in awe of the magnificent sponsorship sign that stands at the west end of the facility. The YMB logo is at the apex of the frame with our traditional Yorkton Cardinal.

“Below the Cardinal are all the sponsors, contractors, volunteers and the Yorkton Minor Ball Committee logos and names. They have all contributed and carried this YMB project on their shoulders and made this project one to be extremely proud of.

“Thanks to everyone for their dedication, passion, and perseverance. This was a great community project.”
