YORKTON – Last month the city announced the recipients of the 2024 Civic Recognition Awards.
Recognized in the group category is SaskAbilities' Day Program for their continued efforts and support for the betterment of the community.
Sheila Reynolds, SaskAbilities' Day Program Senior Supervisor, expressed to SaskToday.ca via email her gratitude for the recognition, stating that it is both deeply rewarding and humbling.
“It affirms that your efforts have made a positive impact and inspires continued dedication to serving others,” said Reynolds, adding “the acknowledgement fosters a sense of belonging and motivates further contributions to the community’s growth and well-being.”
The Day Program supports 58 individuals and has made significant contributions through various community volunteer activities. These efforts include park clean-up in the spring, assisting at the Bentley, cleaning the community fridge, delivering meals on wheels, helping out at Serendipity, participating in random acts of kindness such as raking leaves and shovelling for those unable to complete these tasks and delivering flyers for organizations and events.
Reynolds highlighted the collective efforts of many departments within SaskAbilities, emphasizing that the Day Program’s recognition is a testament to their combined contributions.
As the Day Program looks forward to 2025, it will be celebrating its 75th anniversary with a series of events throughout the year, beginning with a pancake breakfast on January 24th. Other planned events include a BBQ in May, a provincial conference in Saskatoon in September, and the hosting of Bowlarama and Snowarama.
Reynolds also noted that the participants take great pride in calling Yorkton home, which is evident in their engagement in community service.
“Contributing to the community creates a rewarding experience for everyone involved – a true win-win,” said Reynolds.
