YORKTON – Students from Sacred Heart High School showcased their talents at the annual Provincial Skills Competition held at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic campus in Saskatoon March 27 and 28, earning top honours in key categories.
Eight competitors represented Sacred Heart in various trade and technology disciplines, including baking, carpentry, cooking, mechanical engineering CAD, video production, public speaking and welding. Among them, Grade 11 students E.J. Schoenrock and Reneil Recana brought home gold medals for their outstanding performances.
Schoenrock excelled in the carpentry category, where he had seven hours to construct a pergola bench using a blueprint. His ability to interpret technical drawings and execute precise measurements helped him successfully complete the project within the allotted time.
Recana triumphed in the mechanical engineering CAD competition, tackling a two-part challenge that required him to digitally recreate a ratchet strap using caliper measurements and parametric modeling techniques. His keen eye for detail and technical proficiency secured his win in the category.
With their victories, both students have earned the opportunity to represent Team Saskatchewan at the Skills Canada National Competition, scheduled to take place from May 28 to 31 at the Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) District. The national event will see competitors from across the country vying for top honours in their respective fields.
Sacred Heart High School continues to celebrate the achievements of its students, highlighting the importance of skilled trades and technology education in Saskatchewan.
