YORKTON - The Yorkton Terriers visited the Weyburn Red Wings Jan. 12 for some exciting SJHL action.
It was Terrier Riley Cormier who was first to score at 1:44 of the first period, assisted by Anthony Domina and Jeff Hammond. Teammate Hammond followed up the goal, hitting the target at at 8:23, assisted by Jaron Desnoyers and Domina, giving the team a 2-0 lead to end the period.
It wasn't until 5:44 of the second period that Red Wing Sam Callahan responded for his team on a power play effort, assisted by Jerome Maharaj and Tyler Teasdale. Anthony McIntosh scored at 8:30 of the second period on the power play for the Terriers, assisted by Tyson Perkins and Domina. Red Wing Max Monette put one past the Terriers' goalie at 10:58, assisted by Lucas Jeffreys and Cade Meiklejohn. But the Terriers would manage another goal before the end of the period, coming by way of Desnoyers at 12:51, assisted by Domina, giving the team a two goal lead to start the third.
The Terriers wasted no time with scoring in the third, with Hammond putting one past the Red Wings' netminder at 2:31 of the period. Red Wing Meiklejohn scored the first of three unanswered Red Wing goals, starting at 6:34 on a power play assisted by Braigh LeGrandeur and Monette. Monette then put another past the Terrier netminder at 11:24 and teammate Jerome Maharjang with a shorthanded goal at 13:05, tying the game. Domina put the Terriers back in the lead at 17:25 with a goal assisted by McIntosh and Desnoyers.
With just over a minute remaining in the game, the Red Wings pulled their goalie in an effort to to tie the game, but it wasn't enough and Terrier David Coyle put one in the empty net with two seconds to spare.
Ethan Farrow was in net for the Terriers, taking on 28 shots and saving 23.
Angelo Zol was in net for the Red Wings, facing 29 shots and saving 23.
The Terriers will visit La Ronge Jan. 19 to take on the Ice Wolves and Flin Flon Jan. 20 to face off against the Bombers in some more SJHL action.
