YORKTON – The Yorkton Terriers secured home ice advantage for the first round of SJHL playoffs with their win over the Melville Millionaires March 14.
The Terriers faced off against the Millionaires at the CN Community Centre Friday night.
Terrier David Coyle capitalized on a power play effort at 4:12 of the first period. Millionaire Jadon Iyogun knotted the score at 9:30 and teammate Jackson Lee gave the Millionaires a one-goal lead at 19:38.
The lone goal of the second period came by way of Terrier Thomas Ries at 10:10, knotting the score to start the third period.
The Millionaires scored early in the third period, at 1:56, coming by way of Edward Knittig. Both Coyle and Ries were successful on power play efforts, scoring at 7:31 and 8:42, respectively. Vinay Junek scored the Terriers fifth goal of the night at 17:01 and Jaron Desnoyers put the puck in the Millionaire's empty net at 19:05 resulting in the 6-3 win.
Callum Creig was in net for the win and blocked 33 shots.
Nick Genette was netminder for the Millionaires, facing 42 shots and saving 37.
On March 15 the Terriers hosted the Millionaires at Westland Arena, drawing a packed house.
The lone goal of the match came from Millionaire Alex Morrison, a short handed effort at 11:35.
Ethan Farrow was in net for the Terriers, saving 37 of 38 shots.
Ben Laurette was in net for the win, blocking 29 shots.
The game was the last of the regular season for the Terriers who ended with 68 points from 33 wins, 21 losses, and two over time losses.
The Terriers are set to face the Millionaires in the first round of SJHL playoffs with the series scheduled to kick off March 21 at Westland Arena.
