Terriers triumph in annual Teddy Bear Toss game

Team will head to Weyburn for action Dec. 17, then host Notre Dame Dec. 20, with Weyburn back at the Westland Insurance Arena Dec. 21.

YORKTON – The Yorkton Terriers were in SJHL action on home ice Saturday hosting Kindersley on the night of the annual ‘Teddy Bear Toss’.

It took only 9:36 for the plush toys to rain down on the ice as Evan Auld opened things with a Terrier goal.

David Coyle scored at 16:29 and Yorkton carried a two-goal lead to the dressing room after the first period.

A powerplay goal by Shayne Tibbles – the only goal of the middle stanza – cut the Terrier lead to 2-1.

It was another powerplay effort, this one by Zakery Anderson at 1:36 of the third period that knotted things 2-2.

Coyle edged Yorkton back in front with his second of the night this one at 11:35 of the third.

Jason Desnoyers extended the Terrier lead to 4-2 with a powerplay effort at 12:45.

Kindersley made it interesting when Tibbles scored his second of the contest at 15:17, but Yorkton held on for a 4-3 win.

Callum Creig was in net for Yorkton facing 33-shots, while Cody Jaman took the loss for the Klippers facing 30-shots.

With the win the Terriers edged back into first place in the SJHL Viterra Division with 31 points based on a record of 15-9-1. Weyburn sits second with 30 points, followed by Melville with 29 and Estevan with 22.

Yorkton will head to Weyburn for action Dec. 17, then host Notre Dame Dec. 20, with Weyburn back at the Westland Insurance Arena Dec. 21.
