YORKTON - The Sask Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Burn Fund announced July 11 its latest initiative in supporting the training of healthcare professionals in the Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) program.
Through generous funding, a total of 60 physicians and nurses within the Yorkton Regional Health Centre and Parkland Area will have the opportunity to attain certification in this critical program.
Led by Sherri Krochak, Health Services Manager of the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Respiratory Therapy, and Utilization Coordinators for Yorkton Regional Health Center, in collaboration with Shane Drosky, Burn Chair for Yorkton Professional Firefighters Association Local 1527, this initiative aims to enhance the emergency care provided to burn injury patients in the region.
The ABLS program, recognized as the American Burn Association's premier educational resource for the emergency care of burn injuries, equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary for the immediate care of burn patients within the crucial first 24 hours post-injury. Through ABLS Live and ABLS Now programs, participants gain expertise in triage, burn survivability, patient transportation, and patient treatment, enhancing emergency and mass casualty preparedness.
By investing in the training and certification of healthcare professionals in the ABLS program, the Sask Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Burn Fund is furthering its commitment to improving the quality of care for burn injury patients in the community. This initiative underscores the importance of collaboration between first responders and healthcare providers in ensuring comprehensive and effective emergency care for those in need.
