YORKTON - The Yorkton Terriers started the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League regular season just the way they would have hoped.
Action started on Westland Insurance Arena ice Friday, and it didn’t take long for the Terriers to hit the score sheet.
Terrier captain Jaron Desnoyers scored only 1:02 into the contest.
He was back finding the twine at 5:24, then completed a natural hat trick at 17:33.
The Wings finally got on the board when Cyprus Smith-Davis scored at 19:16.
It was more Terriers in the second frame.
William Leonard scored at 11:15, and then Desnoyers was back to score his fourth of the contest at 14:33.
Dustin Rinas scored at 1:20 of the final stanza to round out a 6-1 Terrier win.
Ethan Farrow stopped all but one of the 29 Red Wing shots in the Terrier net.
Angelo Zol took the loss facing 32 Terrier shots.
The two teams were back in action Sunday, this time an afternoon affair in Weyburn.
This time the Wings were first to the scoreboard as Blake Betson scored 2:13 into the contest and Keenan Ingram scored at 4:42 for a 2-0 lead through 20-minutes of play.
The Terriers tied things scoring the only two goals of the second period.
Jeff Hammond scored 32-seconds into the period, with William Leonard adding one at 13:09.
The Terrier broke into the lead in the third when Riley Cormier scored at 4:01 and Desnoyers added a short-handed effort at 14:54.
The Wings drew close on a Lucas Schmid powerplay marker at 15:36 to make it 4-3.
The Terriers would salt away the win when Thierry Laliberte added an empty netter to round out scoring at 5-3 for the visitors.
Farrow was again in the Terrier nets for the win facing 33-shots.
Mitchell Dazza faced 31-shots in taking the loss in the Wings cage.
The Terriers are back in action Friday as they head west to face Humboldt, before returning home to host Kindersley Saturday.
