YORKTON - Yorkton Council passed a motion at its regular meeting confirming the city is indeed eligible for the annual Municipal Revenue Sharing Grant from the province.

Annually, the Ministry of Government Relations provides funding to the City in the form of a revenue sharing grant. This grant is a portion of the PST collected by the Province and is distributed to cities based on population, explained Ashley Stradeski, Director of Finance with the city Monday.

In order to attain this funding and ensure effective local governance, the City must file the annual eligibility declaration.

For the 2025 budget, this revenue is estimated to be $4,000,000.

“It is a sizable chunk of our revenue,” said Stradeski, who would add it is more than 10 per cent of property taxes collected.

The declaration, due January 31st, requires council resolution and confirmation that the requirements below have been met:

* Submission of the 2023 Audited Financial Statements to the Ministry of Government Relations;

* Submission of the 2023 Public Reporting on Municipal Waterworks to the Ministry of Government Relations;

* In Good Standing with respect to the reporting and remittance of Education Property Taxes;

* Adoption of a Council Procedures Bylaw;

* Adoption of an Employee Code of Conduct; and

* All members of council have filed and annually updated their Public Disclosure Statements, as required .

It is understood that if any requirements are not met, the Municipal Revenue Sharing Grant may be withheld until all requirements are met, added Stradeski.
