YORKTON - It was not the start to their SJHL semi finals series the Yorkton Terriers were looking for.

The Terriers travelled to Melfort Friday to take on the local Mustangs – the league’s regular season best, and that regular season dominance showed.

The first 20-minutes stayed close as the Mustangs scored the only goal, a powerplay effort from Zac Somers.

The second though saw the Mustangs take control of the contest.

Zack Turner made it 2-0 just 42-seconds in.

Bo Eisner extended the lead to 3-0 at the mid point of the stanza and it was 4-0 going to the break after a powerplay effort from Will Munro at 13:14.

Thirty seconds into the third Munro made it 5-0.

Kristian Coombs finally gave up his shut-out in the Melfort net on a goal by Jaron Desnoyers at 15:17. Coombs faced 29-shots in the game.

Eisner would add a sixth Mustang goal 17-seconds after the Terrier effort – his second of the game – to round out a 6-1 Melfort win to start things in the best-of-seven series.

Callum Creig took the loss in the Terrier net facing 43-shots.

Game two is tonight (Saturday) at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort, with games three and four set for the Westland Insurance Arena in Yorkton Tuesday and Wednesday.
