Accused to stand trial in Saskatoon for wife's murder

SASKATOON – A Saskatoon man charged with second-degree murder in his wife’s death is headed to trial. A date will be set in Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench.

Derek Caron and Crystal Lafond were arrested Feb. 7 after police found a woman’s body off of 11th Street west of Saskatoon a few kilometres from Highway 7. Saskatoon Police say they went to the area around 4 a.m. that day after getting a call about suspicious activity. 

Court documents show that Jessica Caron was killed on Feb. 1. Derek Caron’s Facebook page says he and Jessica Caron were married. Court documents show that he lived on Avenue S South in Saskatoon.

Lafond, who also goes by the name of Crystal Laliberte, is back in Saskatoon Provincial Court. June 23 to enter a plea. She is charged with helping Caron escape and accessory after the fact to murder. She also faces weapons and theft charges in other incidents.
