SASKATOON – A 30-year-old Saskatoon man is facing weapons-related charges after he was reportedly seen with a gun.
On June 30, at 5:15 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to 19th Street West and Avenue R South for a report of a man carrying a handgun. When police arrived, they found the suspect carrying a backpack. He fled on foot as officers approached.
Following a brief foot-chase through back alleys, the suspect continued to ignore police officer commands in the 300 block of Avenue U South, which, at the time, had high pedestrian traffic. A conducted energy weapon (CEW) was deployed and, following a brief altercation, the man was successfully taken into custody.
In his backpack, police located an air-soft pistol and a hatchet. He was medically assessed and cleared by paramedics in police cells.
He is charged with two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting arrest. He also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
He appeared in Saskatoon court July 4.
