WYNYARD – A woman arrested last year, after police raided an Archerwill home and seized weapons and drugs, has been found guilty Friday in Wynyard Provincial Court. Holly Schweitzer, now 39, will be sentenced on Nov. 8.

Schweitzer was arrested following the execution of a search warrant by Greenwater RCMP, along with the RCMP Crime Reduction Team, and RCMP Warrant Enforcement Suppression Team (WEST), on March 30, 2022.

The Sask. Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety’s Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods, or SCAN, assisted with the investigation. SCAN laws first came into effect in Manitoba and have since been enacted in Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. SCAN units have tremendous power when investigating complaints. They can issue warnings, pursue the landlords and ask a court to issue a Community Safety Order to board up the property for 90 days.

RCMP say the search warrant was obtained after their investigation determined there was evidence of drug trafficking at the residence. Archerwill is about 70 kilometres southeast of Melfort.

During their search of the home, police seized an illegally modified firearm, machete, Tazer, knife, other weapons and ammunition, methamphetamine, LSD, OxyContin and other pills, and a sum of cash.

At the home they also arrested Rudi Betthel of Bjorkdale who was wanted by Tisdale RCMP on weapons and drug charges, and by Saskatoon Police for failing to appear in court. Betthel remains in custody and is back in Saskatoon Provincial Court Aug. 30.

Both Schweitzer and Betthel were charged with weapons and drug-trafficking related offences.

Earlier this year, Schweitzer lost her charter challenge of the search warrant used to raid her home where the drugs and weapons were seized. Her trial was held in April and continued in June.
