Armed robbery in Eastend ends in arrest

Man turns gun on employee after trying to leave a business without paying for fuel.

EASTEND – An attempted gas and dash turned into an armed robbery recently. Shaunuvon RCMP received a report on Dec. 10 at around 3:30 p.m. from an employee that a man filled his vehicle with fuel and tried leaving without paying.

“The employee exited the business and the male pointed a firearm at him before fleeing the scene,” said RCMP in a media release.

Police were able to locate the vehicle at a home in Eastend a short time later, and the man was arrested without incident.

“A rifle believed to be have been pointed at the victim and a semi-automatic firearm were recovered and seized by police at the time of the arrest,” said RCMP.

Adam Kormendy faces a number of charges including robbery using a firearm; pointing a firearm; possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to a probation order. Kormendy will make his first court appearance on Dec. 15 in Swift Current on these charges.
