BEAUVAL – Three people have been charged with attempted murder after a man was shot and injured at a home in Beauval Saturday morning.
Beauval RCMP say that the 20-year-old man was shot multiple times and he sustained serious injuries. He was taken to hospital by EMS.
Based on information gathered through video surveillance obtained by police, three people in a black Chevrolet Equinox SUV, were seen at the home. Police say they believe a woman was driving and there were two male passengers. Beauval RCMP sent a public safety advisory in the detachment area to inform the community of the incident and to encourage residents to report sightings of the suspect vehicle.
The suspect vehicle was located driving on Highway 155 towards Beauval at approximately 1 p.m. A pursuit was initiated and the SUV continued to flee from police for approximately two kilometres. During the course of the pursuit, occupants threw a large duffle bag from the window of the SUV.
The SUV was successfully stopped with a spike belt near the woods on the east side of Highway 903. The three occupants fled from the SUV towards the bush. The bag, which contained two firearms, was recovered by police. This aspect of the investigation was assisted by officers from the Buffalo, Dillion, Ile X, Pinehouse and Meadow Lake RCMP detachments.
Search efforts to locate the suspect vehicle and its occupants were ongoing since the incident took place, with additional support from the Prince Albert RCMP General Investigation Section [GIS], Battlefords RCMP GIS and Saskatoon RCMP GIS. As a result of further investigation with assistance from the Saskatoon Police Service Air 1, North Battleford RCMP Police Dog Services, Beauval, Buffalo Narrows, Ile La Crosse and Dillon RCMP detachments, the three suspects were located in the bush at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday and were arrested.
Clayton Ahenakew, 26, from Ile a La Crosse, Jaylena Lafleaur, 26, from Meadow Lake, and Prosper Gardiner, 26, from Ile a La Crosse have each been charged attempted murder, two counts of transporting a firearm in a carless manner, two counts of possession of a firearm without a licence, two counts of being an occupant in a vehicle and knowing there was a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm without authorization, two counts of possession of a firearm knowing that it was obtained by crime, and two counts of possession of a firearm knowing that the serial number had been removed. Prosper Gardiner faces additional charges of possession of firearm while prohibited, and breach of probation.
All three made their first appearance in Meadow Lake Provincial Court May 29.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
