Man arrested with machete, sawed-off shotgun, appears in court

Jesse Chad Peequaquat-Svandrik, 23, appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court Tuesday on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, three counts of possession of a weapon while prohibited, and breach of conditions and probation.

SASKATOON – Two men armed with a machete and a sawed-off shotgun were arrested Sunday and charged with numerous weapons-related charges.

Jesse Chad Peequaquat-Svandrik, 23, appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court Tuesday on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, three counts of possession of a weapon while prohibited, and breach of conditions and probation. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled back in court July 6 for a show cause hearing.

The second accused, a 22-year-old man, appears in Saskatoon court Aug. 2.He is charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and breach of probation.

Saskatoon police say that at about 7 p.m. on July 2, patrol officers were dispatched to 18th Street West and Avenue W South for a report of two men believed to be armed.

Police located two men who matched the suspect descriptions as they were attempting to enter an apartment in the 800 block of Appleby Drive. A third male was with them, but was later released without charges. The barrel of a firearm was visible to officers at the bottom of a suspect’s shorts. The sawed-off shotgun and machete were seized by officers and all three suspects were arrested without incident.
