SASKATOON – A Saskatoon homicide victim has been identified in court Friday as 48-year-old Jason Horse. He was found injured from a gunshot wound in a home in the 200 block of Avenue I South on Feb. 17.
Two men have been charged with first-degree murder in his death and made their first appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court April 5.
Tyrone Nepoose, 37, and Robin Stone, 34, were both remanded in custody. Nepoose is seeking private legal counsel.
Judge Lisa Watson ordered both of them not to have contact with several people. They are back in court April 18.
Nepoose was arrested by Saskatoon RCMP WEST in North Battleford on April 3. Stone was arrested by Saskatoon Police Service in Saskatoon on April 4.
Horse grew up on Thunderchild First Nation and lived in Saskatoon for the past 20 years, according to his obituary.
Horse was a father, and after he had a son, he became sober.
“Jason had been sober for 29 years; he understood the importance of breaking the cycle, and enjoying each day.
“Jason loved to laugh, his compassion for others was evident in the way he treated others and how he lived his life, no hate - just love,” continues his obituary. “Like his mom, he loved his music, be it country, round dance and powwow.
“His love of our culture and traditions was key in his upbringing and he never ‘lost’ his ‘Nêhiyâwin’ as he still spoke it fluently, despite living in Saskatoon the past 20 years.”
