PRINCE ALBERT – A preliminary hearing wrapped up in Prince Albert Provincial Court June 29 for Kyle Angus Burns on a second-degree murder charge. The judge has reserved a decision until July 21.
Burns is one of five people charged in 27-year-old Byron Lee Bear’s death. In February 2022, Burns, Raine Tristen Von Farrow, and Riley Primeau were arrested. In March 2022, Daniel Oliver was arrested.
Prince Albert police say Bear was believed to be involved in a serious assault on Dec. 6, 2021, at a home in the 300 block of 9 Street East in Prince Albert. Police had responded to the home at about 4 a.m. for a report of gunshots. When they arrived, they found evidence of a serious assault but no victim. Bear’s family reported him missing on Dec. 7, 2021.
Two months later, on Feb. 10, 2022, Bear’s remains were found in a rural area near Hague.
In March, Oliver was committed to stand trial in Prince Albert Court of King’s Bench. On June 13, Primineau was also committed to stand trial at Prince Albert Court of King's Bench on a reduced charge of manslaughter. Farrow's preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 26.
Police continue to search for Jackson Henry who is wanted on a second-degree murder charge in Bear's death.
