Patrick John Bruce Schapanksy from Unity has been found not guilty following a trial in North Battleford Provincial Court.

NORTH BATTLEFORD – Patrick John Bruce Schapanksy from Unity has been found not guilty of making death threats.

Schapanksy’s remaining charges of possession of a knife for a dangerous purpose, criminal harassment, and mischief were dismissed by Judge Ian Mokuruk. When charges are dismissed it means that the judge isn’t allowing the charges to proceed. This usually happens when there isn’t enough evidence for the charges to proceed to trial.

Schapansky, 25, appeared in person in North Battleford Provincial Court for the trial on July 31. He was represented by defence counsel Michael Owens and Brynn Achtymichuk prosecuted the case.

In a September 2022 media release, Unity RCMP had said they charged Schapansky after getting a call saying he was threatening people at a home in Unity. Schapansky had left the home after police were called. RCMP had said they received multiple 911 calls that Schapansky was going to other homes while they were searching for him. Cut Knife RCMP helped Unity RCMP located Schapansky at a home and arrested him.
