MAIDSTONE – The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Roving Traffic Unit and Battlefords RCMP Gang Task Force and Crime Reduction Teams worked together to arrest a couple from British Columbia.

The incident started at about 1:10 p.m. on Nov. 22 when the RCMP Roving Traffic Unit tried to stop a vehicle on Highway 16 near Maidstone. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fled at about 220 km/hr.

Battlefords RCMP, Gang Task Force and Crime Reduction Team immediately started looking for the vehicle. Their investigation determined that the vehicle had stopped briefly outside a business off of Highway 16. Officers searched the area and found a duffle bag containing three semi-automatic firearms, a rifle, and approximately 45 grams of cocaine.

Officers later observed a tow truck hauling the suspect vehicle. They conducted a traffic stop and arrested the passengers.

Damon Lafleur, 19, from Surrey, B. C., and Brianne Quinn, 20, from Langley, B. C., were each charged with six firearms-related offences, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, and possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000. Quinn was additionally charged with failing to stop for a police officer and dangerous driving.

Quinn and Lafleur appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Nov. 24.
