PRINCE ALBERT – Police have arrested 23-year-old Cory Lafleur, who was wanted for firearms related offences.

On Oct. 11, following what police described as a significant, ongoing investigation, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) arrested Lafleur at a home in Prince Albert.

He was wanted since Sept. 3 after Beauval RCMP got reports of shots fired in Beauval. The initial police investigation determined that a firearm was discharged at a woman, who was in a vehicle. She didn’t report any injuries to police.

Lafleur allegedly fled in a black SUV and Beauval RCMP patrolled the area searching for the SUV and suspects. Meadow Lake RCMP later located the black SUV at a residence on Flying Dust First Nation.

Lafleur is charged with uttering threats, discharging a firearm with intent, using a firearm without reasonable precaution for the safety of other persons, carrying a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and three counts of unlicensed possession of a firearm.

Lafleur appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court Oct. 10 with a next appearance on Oct. 19.

RCMP WEST targets high-profile offenders who are a significant threat to public safety, such as gang members and violent offenders with outstanding warrants. The RCMP operates one WEST team out of Saskatoon and Meadow Lake and another out of Prince Albert. WEST is one team under SERT, the Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Teams.
