REGINA – Police in the Queen City were able to close a four-month investigation that stemmed from a rash of vehicle thefts, all through one arrest.
With a joint effort between the RPS Patrol and Canine units arrested Kaleb Braden Ryder, 22, on Jan. 22, initially on weapons charges. Ryder was charged on three counts possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and single counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, and failure to comply with a condition of a release order.
A boatload of charges came Ryder’s way four days later when the RPS Property Crimes and Stolen Auto units concluded their auto theft investigation. Ryder was then charged with eight counts failure to comply with a condition of a release order; seven counts possession of a stolen auto over $5,000; two counts each possession of a stolen auto under $5,000, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and failure to stop after an accident; and single counts of carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, careless use of a firearm, resist arrest, and fraud under $5,000.
“In addition, arrest warrants were executed on Ryder on behalf of the Saskatoon and Moose Jaw Police Services for a myriad of charges including theft of auto, break and enter, and weapons offences,” said RPS in a media release.
Ryder made his first appearance on these charges in court Jan. 27, and will return on Feb. 3.
