REGINA – An incident that had the RPS Explosive Disposal Unit called out, prompting a call for the public to avoid an area of the city, resulted in arrests and multiple charges for one man.
Details from a traffic stop in the 200 block of King Street on Nov. 20 noted the front passenger of the vehicle wearing a bullet-proof style vest and further investigation revealed what appeared to be an explosive.
“The RPS Explosive Disposal Unit was called to the scene to assist in disposing of the explosive device, which was later determined to be an improvised incendiary device (Molotov cocktail),” RPS explained in a media release. “The occupants of the vehicle were arrested and upon further search of the vehicle, police located a loaded .22 calibre sawed off rifle between the front passenger seat and the middle console.”
A 24-year-old man is facing charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle; unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition; transport a firearm in a careless manner; possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace; and unlawful possession of explosives.
The man made his first court appearance on Nov. 21.
