Regina police find 'slam-gun' on youth

Adult and youth released; court dates imminent.

REGINA – Police seized a homemade firearm after responding to a call of a gunshot in the 2500 block of Fifth Avenue on Nov. 26.

“Police were able to obtain a partial description of the suspects and, a short time later, saw two individuals who matched the description in the 1200 block of Athol Street,” RPS said in a media release. “Both people were taken into custody without incident.”

Police soon discovered the source of the initial gunshot complaint as one of the suspects was carrying a slam-gun and a spent shotgun shell in their backpack.

“One of the suspects - an adult male - was found to be the subject of warrants,” police said. “The other suspect - a female youth - was charged with possession of the weapon.”

The youth cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, but she is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and unauthorized possession of a firearm. She was released by police on an undertaking, and is scheduled to make a first court appearance on these charges on Dec. 9. The male was also released on an undertaking, and will be making his first court appearance on Jan. 9, 2023.
