Rosetown man charged with serious assault back behind bars

Cory Rushkewich was released on strict conditions in December including wearing an ankle bracelet for electronic monitoring.

SASKATOON – A man accused of a serious assault in Rosetown has been arrested and charged with breaking his release conditions. Cory Rushkewich, 33, is back behind bars and is back in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Jan. 11.

Rushkewich was released on strict conditions including wearing an ankle bracelet for electronic monitoring. He was scheduled back in court on Dec. 21 to enter an election and failed to appear.

His brother, Randy Darcy Rushkewich, 29, remains in custody since their arrest in November and has a bail hearing on Jan. 18.  His latest appearance in Saskatoon court was on Jan. 4.

The two brothers are each charged with aggravated assault. Cory Rushkewich is also charged with three counts of pointing a firearm and robbery.

The charges stem from a robbery and serious assault in Rosetown just before midnight on Nov. 11. The Rosetown RCMP investigation determined there was an altercation between a group of individuals in the 1st Street West area. A man stole a cellphone from a woman and pointed a firearm at her and a man during the incident. The male victim was assaulted and is being treated in Saskatoon hospital for serious injuries.
